Dear Friends,

Welcome to the 2023 Junior and Cadet Fencing World Championships! I hope you and your team have a successful and enjoyable visit to Bulgaria, this being the fourth time in 20 years Plovdiv will host this important FIE competition.

I would especially like to thank the Bulgarian Fencing Federation for their generous support, dedication and exceptionally skilled preparation and management. With more than 1,000 fencers expected to participate as well as coaches and staff from nearly 100 countries, we are confident plans will run smoothly in Plovdiv.

As always for the Junior and Cadet Fencing World Championships, we will have a total of 18 exciting individual and team events in all weapons over nine days of competition. There will also be a training camp and several activities in which fencers and coaches have the opportunity to learn essential information about anti-doping, Safe Sport and Fair Play. Plus, our Donate Your Fencing Gear! programme will be available to receive equipment donations to benefit countries in need of support to develop fencing.

When you plan your visit to Plovdiv, be sure and take time with your athletes to explore the City’s stunning and ancient history and architecture, including the marvelous old town as well as the Roman-era Ancient Theatre of Philippopolis. I wish you the very best in your preparations for the Championships and look forward to seeing you in April in Plovdiv!
